Google’s Find My Device is the primary data protection layer for Android users. Using this feature you can locate your phone, lock it or erase all data on it. Losing your smartphone can be a bad experience. Everything from your personal photos to bank details will be lost. However, if you lose your Android phone or it gets stolen, Google offers some security features to protect your confidential information and recover your lost device. Use Find My Device

• Google’s Find My Device is the primary data protection layer for Android users. Using this feature you can locate your phone, lock it or erase all data on it. But it will work only if you have already enabled this feature on your device.
• For this first open the Settings application on your smartphone. Click on Google.
• Depending on the version of your phone, you will see an option called All Services. If possible, click on it.
• If there is an option called Look for Find My Device tap on it.
• Make sure the Use Find My Device option is switched on.
• You can find your phone’s location using a web browser or another phone with the Find My Device option enabled on your phone.

• Go to the link google.com/android/find using a web browser or another Android device and log in to the Google account associated with your lost phone.
• Here you can see all the Android devices connected to your account. Click on your lost device. Now you can track it.
• Note that this feature only works if the device has an internet connection. Perhaps if your device is switched off, this way you can find out what location it was at when it was switched off.
• Perhaps if you can’t find your phone you can use the “Play Sound” feature to let you know it’s nearby.
• If you believe your phone has been stolen, you can lock it from your location using a PIN number, password or pattern. Additionally, you can erase all data on your phone. But keep in mind that doing this will erase your phone data permanently.

Keep your smartphone safe

Although Find My Device is helpful in locating a lost or stolen device, you should take a few precautions to keep your phone safe.Make sure “Find My Device” is enabled on your Android phone. Check the Settings option frequently to see if this option is always active.

Use a strong PIN, password or fingerprint for your phone screen.

Back up phone data to Google Drive or other cloud storage services frequently to protect your photos, contacts and other important information.
