Workers at home have been asked to introduce new changes to labor laws to redefine their working hours. Once work from home is enabled at a large scale, people may want to work for only a certain number of hours a day, as opposed to the norm of 8 hours a day.

Taxation Changes

Because of the Corona debacle, most IT workers are working from home, while others are working remotely, which is expected to bring about new changes to the country’s taxation laws. Employers to enable work from home will need to be treated as business expenses including broadband costs, office furniture etc.

Employees Safety and Health Equity

Employees must ensure that the workplace is adequately protected and sanitized and that the company’s shares are reassessed. Moreover, the role of employer with respect to safety and health measures at the workplace will require a rethink as the home becomes the new workplace.

Transformational Development

Transformation it is urged that the telecommunications and broadband infrastructure services be upgraded to the next level so that there is no cyber crisis in the residential areas of the employees.

The telecommunication sectors has recently made several concessions since most employees work from home and have been asked to make these concessions permanent. The government categorized the industry as essential services and permitted exemptions similar to those granted to units in SEZs and STPIs by the department of telecom.

Changes in Pension Plan

Employees have the option of choosing a national pension plan instead of a social security plan. People could work for two or even three companies at the same time. So, the government will need to let employers and workers choose NPS (National Pension Scheme) instead of EPFO as a social security scheme.
